Goldberg Tiger II
I obtained this plane by covering a Piper Cub for a friend. He was one of the
guys that I mentioned in the PT-20 article that liked my work. It was powered
by a Tiger .40 engine and flew like a dream. I went from a PT-20 to this.
A big jump in some eyes but this plane really flew well. I wish many times that
I still had it but alas, this plane fell victim to my first, and I hope last,
mid-air collision.
It was Blue and Gold when I received it and there were a few areas that needed
some fix-up. I knew it would fly ok cause I had seen him fly it already. The
only thing that I really had to do was place a receiver in it and go. But I wanted
to fix it up. I, at that time, was picky on the appearance of my planes and I fixed
it up to be my Winston Racing Plane. (Again with my wife's help) It was impressive
in the Arizona sun. Many people gave it compliments and it made me proud.
I learned to do a number of maneuvers with this plane. Reverse half Cuban 8's and
full circles upside down and some other daring stuff. It responded to every move
with precision. It had enough rudder that I could do flat turns. I know some of
this sounds simple ... and it is if you are experienced, but like everything else
in life ... if you've never done it, it is difficult.
I liked this plane so much that after the mid-air I decided to get his big brother,
the Tiger-60. That will be covered in another article.
