It Arrived!!! -- and the SetUp

November 27th, 2019/9:10am  Now then, the setup of this new PC is going to involve two(2) computers... and possibly 3. I cheat a lot. Use previous Web Pages in order to build new ones. Lazy is only part of it. Remembering is the main part. Lots of this came from my write up on my  HP 700-530qe. And I'm going to leave a lot of it for reference.

  1. Get all the Hostnames and IP addresses straight.
    • Dars-pc - My Wife's Machine
    • Dusty-tr2 - Main Mama - Will change to Dakotah-i7
Tasha-tr7 - Win 7 inside VMware on 'old' machine.
Will keep the same inside 'newest' machine.
    • Trdm4 - The Laptop
    • Tipper-i7 - The other New i7 Machine
Tobi-i7 - Win 7 inside VMware on the 'other new' machine.
    • workhorse - Whatever machine I have connected in the Hobby Room
    • PSD55465 - The Netgear Printer Server
    • Now then the following items will change... and I fear cause me a lot of grief!! -But maybe not. They are ALL on the m7480n which is being replaced by this 700-530qe. The 'old' machine had two HDD's. The 'C' drive was the OS's and the 'D' drive was for Data. The 'L' drive was a logical drive in an extended partition on the 'D' drive. Now what I need to do is create a similar setup on the new System's 1TB and 2TB Hard Drives. The 1TB will have the OS's and the 2TB the Data.
    • windrvc - The C drive in WinXP
    • windrvd - The D drive in WinXP
    • windrvl - The L drive in WinXP
    • Dusty3 - The VMware Win2k
    • Dusty4 - The VMware Vista
  2. Setup and test the New PC. Extra RAM and Extra HDD installed BEFORE firing up the new machine. Good, bad or indifferent ... that is what we did.
Later: The machine fired up fine and showed the 32GB of RAM. The HDD did not show cause it has not been initialized yet.
  3. At the end, or at least close to it, we were given the option of UpGrading to Windows 10. We gave it some thought and then decided to say 'Yes'. Was originally looking for a PC with Windows 10 anyway, so now we have it. Not sure how it will coincide with Linux.
  4. Speaking of which... now that we have the 'New PC' up and running, we need to install openSuSE Linux. Which means that we are required to split up the 1TB drive. One section for Windows and one for Linux. Now then, since we did this once already, on the other i7 it should be a piece of cake... right??
  5. Ok... I am going to shutdown the System, move the 'old' System into the workshop and bring the 'new' one out to my desk. I can communicate via my LAN no matter which one is in which place... right?? Right. -BUT- I must shut down the whole Network... so later. 8:18pm
  6. Copy info from the 'old one' to the 'new one'
