SuSE 10.1 RC1

These installs and uses were inside VMware 5.5.1 which was running inside SuSE 10.0 and not the actuall machine. It was getting to hairy to change my Linux portion of my system to the latest Beta, only to find out that it wasn't going to work properly. So I decided to use VMware for something besides running Windows. I now install the latest betas inside VMware. If they prove to be ok then I can install them in my real Linux portion of my system. So far I am still running version 10.0 as my main Linux.

Praises Given:

The Install:

The next screen is the Media Check. I checked all 5 disks cause I have had problems in the past. It takes valuable time ... but ... it is better to find out now that there is a bad disk rather than during the install.

Actually... I didn't on this one.

Conviences:

We all have our ways of doing things and I have mine. I re-installed my .alias, .function and .xintrc so that I can operate my way. Just some little short cuts to the long arguments for ls and others.

I also like nedit. They don't include it anymore but I have my own copy that I install on every new release. So far it has continued to work.

USB Mouse:

RC1:Doesn't work at Installation Screen.

Bluefish:

RC1 Note:Ok this was a FULL install. In the previous alpha's and beta's I had some trouble getting everything needed to compile and setup bluefish. For this version it worked fine. I had to install the following packages in order to get this to work:

  • pkg-config
  • libgtk2.0-dev
  • pcre-config
After the above were placed into action, I could then compile and install bluefish. In fact this little section about bluefish is being written in bluefish.
